The Association of Berlin Business People and Industrials (VBKI) awards every year since 2012 prizes young scientist, that advanced the science and business location Berlin with outstanding ideas.

This year, Marika Karbstein was decorated for her PhD thesis on "Line Planning  and Connectitivity". In her work within the DFG Research Center Matheon, she developed a novel mathematical theory of hypergraphs in order to optimize the line system of Potsdam's public transport company ViP. The top-class jury under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Peter Deuflhard selected overall 4 PhD and 2 Master's theses. The prizes were awarded in a celebration event titled "Let there be light - in Berlin and Brandenburg!" on November 13, 2014, in the Ludwig-Erhard House by Peter Deuflhard and VBKI's president Markus Voigt. Congratulations!
