The A.W. Tucker prize of the Mathematical Optimization Society (MOS) is the most prestigious dissertation award in the area of mathematical optimization. It is awarded every three years at the opening ceremony of the society's triannual conference, the International Symposium on Mathematical Programming (ISMP). At this year's ISMP in Pittsburgh, Marika Karbstein's thesis "Line Planning and Connectivity" was one of the three finalists of the award. "This is definitely a milestone success in mathematical approaches to traffic optimization.", said Karen Aardal (left), chairwoman of the prize committee, in her citation speech; on the right of the picture is Bill Cook, the chairman of the MOS.
