It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Professor Reinhard Schneider.
An internationally recognised scientist, he made important contributions to bioinformatics and computational biology. As a professor at the University of Luxembourg and a leading scientist at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), he played an important role in advancing data science and bioinformatics as well as the integration and use of scientific data in biomedical research.
Reinhard Schneider was closely associated with ZIB for more than ten years as a member of its Scientific Advisory Board. In this role, he accompanied the scientific development of the institute over a long period and contributed his broad experience and international perspective to ZIB’s strategic discussions.
Beyond his work with ZIB, he was strongly committed to bringing together computer science, data science and biomedical research. For several years, he served on the Board of Directors of the VPH Society, contributing to its mission of advancing computational and in silico approaches in medicine.
Reinhard Schneider will be remembered as an outstanding scientist, a highly valued advisor and a respected colleague. ZIB is deeply grateful for his long-standing commitment and support and will honour his memory with gratitude and respect.
Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues and collaborators.
