On its annual student conference, the Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung (DMV) awards prizes for excellent theses in the field of mathematics.

This year, Heide Hoppmann has been awarded a first prize for her master thesis "A Configuration Model for the Line Planning Problem". The thesis develops a comprehensive theory for expanded IP formulations on the basis of so-called configurations in order to solve line planning problems in public transport. The thesis was developed within the framework of the research project "B15 Service Design in Public Transport" of the Berlin-based DFG Research Center Matheon. The prize was awarded to Heide Hoppmann at Ruhr-Universität Bochum on 02/10/2014 by the chairman of the prize committee Prof. Dr. Peter Eichelsbacher.
